Expect a jump in your career? Is MBA an option?

Whether the job switch in question is a small repositioning within the same industry or a dramatic leap into an entirely new field, business school has traditionally provided a place where would-be career switchers start on their new track. However, that may be less true today than in the past. In today's tight job market, embarking on a new job path is now an uphill battle, even with the additional weapon of an MBA. Economies make companies become selective of the work force and reduce hiring. So, companies are less willing to take on inexperienced candidates, even those holding MBAs from top business schools. So, changing jobs is difficult. Students planning a change of career should look to smaller and mid-sized firms in various locations instead of focusing on brand names. Students who wish to change careers can proactively choose the desired subjects in their first year. They can join industry-specific clubs, participate in field study or class projects with firms in the desired industry, or even joint degrees. Finding a summer internship in your field of interest would be extremely helpful. Changing careers will not come easy but you can make it possible. Be proactive and start applying to the companies early.
